Frequently Asked Questions

No. Lucioli is a 7 mm low-pressure tire inflation system designed specifically for off-road, hard enduro, cross-country and dual sport use.

It combines:

  • An ultra-thick 7 mm tube body
  • Internal reinforcement
  • Two in-mold rim locks / security bolts

This lets you safely run
very low pressures (down to 4–5 psi in many off-road conditions) with much more grip and rim protection than a conventional HD/UHD tube, while still keeping the adjustable air pressure and “alive” feel that mousse systems don’t offer.

Mousses are solid foam inserts marketed as 100% flat-proof, with a fixed “psi feel” (for example, around 10–12 psi equivalent). They can’t be aired up or down, and their feel changes as they wear, none of them offers to go as low as 4 psi

Lucioli is different in three key ways:

  • You still use air.
    • You can tune pressure for terrain and event: ultra-low psi for traction in rocks/roots, more pressure for MX or high-speed sections.
  • More “pneumatic” feel.
    • Many riders who switched from mousse to Lucioli report that the bike feels more alive and predictable, without the “dead” front-end sensation heavy mousses can give.
  • Longevity and cost per hour.
    • Lucioli is designed to handle multiple tire changes and long hours of use. Riders regularly report 200+ hours and several rear tires on a single tube when installed correctly, which can work out cheaper per season than burning through several mousses.

If you want
low-pressure traction + no pinch flats + adjustable air pressure, Lucioli is a stronger fit.

On paper, Lucioli costs more than a single UHD tube or a budget mousse. But the value comes from:

  • Multiple tire changes on the same tube when correctly installed
  • Very low risk of pinch flats and valve-stem failures
  • Run-flat effect in case of puncture – often saving a DNF, tow, or long walk out.
  • Ability to run ultra-low pressures safely for traction that standard tubes simply can’t offer

Many riders who were buying
3–4 bib mousses per year per wheel find that a single Lucioli setup can replace several mousse purchases and lots of tire-change labor. When you look at cost per hour of riding – plus the cost of lost riding time when you flat – Lucioli often ends up cheaper than “cheap” solutions.

If you’re riding mellow trails close to the truck and rarely flat, standard tubes may be enough.

If you depend on your tires to finish races, events or remote rides, Lucioli is priced as a premium, long-term solution, not a disposable tube.

No tire system is truly 100% flat-proof.

LucioIi is engineered to virtually eliminate pinch flats and valve-stem tears by combining 7 mm thickness with twin in-mold rim locks that keep the tube from slipping inside the tire at low psi.

However, very sharp objects (nails, long screws, big sidewall cuts) can puncture any system that uses air – including Lucioli. If this happens:

  • The tube’s structure gives a run-flat effect similar to a car tire insert, so you can usually ride out or finish the race instead of hiking.
  • The tube can be repaired with vulcanizing patches by any competent tire shop.

So no, we don’t claim “0% chance of flats”. What we offer is
drastically fewer flats and a much higher chance of riding out safely when something extreme does happen. Refer to the warranty page for more info

Lucioli is heavier than a standard or UHD tube – that’s the trade-off for 7 mm of rubber and internal reinforcement. For example, a front Lucioli tube is listed at around 2.2 kg (about 4.8 lb) the U.S. product listing shows a shipping weight of about 7 lb including packaging on 21” and 9 lb on 18”120 .

What riders actually report in practice:

  • Noticeably better traction and stability at 4–8 psi, especially in rocks, roots and wet climbs Click here for technical explanation
  • Less deflection and fewer rim hits compared to thin tubes at higher psi
  • Once you’re riding, the difference most people feel is more grip and confidence, not a slower or “dead” wheel

For hard enduro, technical singletrack, dual sport and adventure use, most riders judge that the
small increase in unsprung weight is well worth the extra grip and reliability.

If you are chasing the lightest possible race setup on a groomed MX track, a super-light tube or Tubliss may remain your preferred option.

Lucioli is made specifically to perform at very low off-road pressures:

  • The official spec for the front recommends around 5–8 psi for a 75 kg rider in typical off-road use.
  • Many enduro riders run 4–6 psi rear and 5–8 psi front for extreme traction in rocks, roots and mud (always within your tire’s safe operating range).
  • Adventure and dual-sport riders commonly run 12–15 psi off-road on heavy bikes, then air back up to 25–30 psi for longer pavement sections.

Always:

  • Stay within the tire manufacturer’s recommended pressure range
  • Adjust for bike weight, speed, terrain and riding style
  • Start at conservative pressures and work your way down as you gain confidence

The key advantage vs
mousse is that you’re still in control of psi – you tune feel and traction the way you like it.

Lucioli is marketed primarily as an off-road tire inflation system for dirt, enduro and cross-country use. Some U.S. listings explicitly label specific sizes “FOR OFF ROAD USE ONLY”.

In practice:

  • Many dual-sport and adventure riders use Lucioli for rides that mix trails with short pavement connectors, airing up for higher-speed sections and back down for dirt.

You are always responsible for complying with
your local regulations and ensuring your setup is appropriate for your speed, load and conditions.

There’s no fixed “expiration date”, because lifespan depends heavily on:

  • Rider weight and speed
  • Terrain (slow woods vs. high-speed desert vs. sharp rocks)
  • Tire choice and condition
  • Installation quality and rim maintenance

However, Lucioli is engineered for
long-term, multi-tire use:

  • The 7 mm construction and internal reinforcement are designed to handle prolonged use at low psi without collapsing.
  • Riders frequently report hundreds of hours and several tire changes on the same tube when installed correctly.

That’s why many customers switch from burning through
multiple mousses per year to running a single Lucioli setup across multiple tires, dramatically improving cost per hour.

Installing Lucioli is different from slipping in a standard tube, but not impossible:

  • You’re working with 7 mm of rubber, plus two in-mold rim locks, so you need:
    • Good tire irons
    • Proper lubrication
    • Patience and correct technique
  • The official instructions recommend:
    • Widening rim holes to 9 mm (from standard 8 mm)
    • Chamfering the holes so the valve and rim-lock bases seat smoothly
    • Running both rim locks for extreme enduro and ultra-low psi use.

For many riders, the first install is the learning curve. After that, the same tube can stay in the wheel through multiple tire changes.

If you’re not comfortable changing heavy off-road tires, we recommend having a professional shop or an experienced friend perform the initial install while following the Lucioli installation video and instructions.

Lucioli uses two built-in rim locks for a reason:

  • At very low pressures (4–6 psi), they lock the tire to the rim much more securely, reducing slip and protecting the valve stem.

Most off-road rims have at least one rim-lock hole already. For the second:

  • You may need to drill an additional hole and widen hole diameters to 9 mm as recommended in the instructions.

Properly installed, the dual rim-lock design is a big part of what makes Lucioli so secure at low pressure.

When installed correctly, Lucioli is designed to protect, not harm, your rims:

  • The 7 mm rubber cushion absorbs impacts before they get to the rim.
  • The two rim locks keep the tire from slipping and tearing the valve stem, which is a common failure mode with thin tubes at low psi.

Rim damage usually comes from:

  • Running too little pressure for your speed and load
  • Severe impacts with sharp rocks or square edges
  • Improperly deburred/drilled holes that cut into the tube or rim-lock bases

If you follow the installation instructions (drilling, deburring, correct torque on rim-lock nuts) and run appropriate pressures, Lucioli acts more like a
7 mm armor layer between your rim and the terrain.

Lucioli is available in common off-road wheel sizes:

  • Front: 21″
  • Rear: 18″ and 19″ (various models for 110/100, 120/100, 130/90, 140/80, etc.)
  •

The system is designed primarily for
36-spoke rims. Some distributors note that if you have a different spoke count (e.g., certain Honda 32-hole rims) or unusual tire size, you should contact us for fitment options.

Lucioli has been successfully used on:

  • 2-stroke and 4-stroke dirt bikes
  • Hard enduro and GNCC-style race bikes
  • Dual-sport bikes
  • Heavy adventure bikes (including 450 lb+ machines running 12–15 psi off-road and airing up for pavement)

If you’re unsure, check the
fitment information on LucioliUSA.com or talk to their support with your bike model, rim size and tire size.

Riders usually switch to Lucioli because they want more than “good enough”:

  • More traction from safely running significantly lower psi than they’re comfortable with on normal tubes
  • Less risk of a race-ending or trip-ending flat when it really matters
  • More consistency over long rides and multiple tire changes
  • Peace of mind in hard enduro, rocky mountains, desert racing or remote dual-sport/adventure riding

Think of Lucioli as
premium insurance + performance upgrade:

  • If flats are already rare for you, Lucioli makes them even less likely and less catastrophic.

If flats are a recurring pain, Lucioli can be the difference between
finishing and DNF – or between riding out and hiking out.
